Getting Into The Holiday Spirit

The holidays are officially here! And the countdown to Christmas is on.

As kids, most of us really love Christmas. The magic of going to sleep, anticipating what gifts will be under the tree. Hoping with all our hearts that we’ll get the very things we asked for. As adults, we can sometimes lose that magical belief, sense of wonderment and possibility.

Now is a great time to refresh, renew and rekindle your holiday spirit.

Cozy up with a classic movie.

Take a break from all the holiday fussing and planning. Put on your comfy clothes, grab some snacks and cozy up on the couch for a Christmas movie or two. This is a great way to get the family gathered up together to relax and enjoy a classic.

Start a New Tradition.

Traditions are a great way to make priceless memories and something to look forward to as the holiday season approaches. You could revive an old tradition from your childhood or start a brand new tradition all your own. With a little imagination and creativity, you can adapt anything to share with friends and family.

Make a Holiday Craft.

You don’t have to spend a lot of money to get into the holiday spirit. Repurpose items around the house to create fun seasonal crafts. Try using your imagination to make something from scratch or browse the internet for crafting ideas. Throw on some festive tunes and get to work.

Turn on the Holiday Tunes.

The season of Christmas music is upon us! Use an app like Spotify to make a playlist of your favorite holiday songs. This special playlist can be played while you bake cookies, make festive crafts, fill out Christmas cards or decorate your home. A Christmas music playlist might be just what you need to get into the holiday spirit.

Bake Festive Treats.

‘Tis the season for delicious desserts. Sweetness can be the best way to spread some holiday cheer to your friends and family. Bake your favorite cookies or look up a new holiday recipe to try. You could bake jolly cupcakes or decadent brownies. Go ahead and make some tasty treats for upcoming holiday parties or make up a few plates of desserts to share with your neighbors. Put on your Christmas playlist and make it an evening of baking fun!

Attend a Cheerful Event.

Stores are stocked with garland, lights, ornaments, stockings and all the holiday décor. December brings heartwarming commercials for products and joyful Hallmark movies. Make the most of the season by going to local events – tree lighting ceremonies, holiday light displays, ice skating or sledding with the kids. Do a little research to see what events are going on in your area and make plans to get out and enjoy the festivities.

Give Back.

Whether its visiting a homeless shelter to serve meals, being a collector for the Salvation Army or some other way to make a difference in your community, you might plan to volunteer. Even if you aren’t in the holiday spirit, donating your time to give back during this season can make a big impact on the lives of others.

The holidays are all about giving not getting – helping someone else’s fire burn a little brighter, helps ours burn a little brighter too. So, what are you waiting for? You’ve got some festive holiday spirit to get into! Even if it takes a little whimsy to find it…

Happy Holidays!
